Whats in a change

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

This week we are doing lots of things. Hubby has gotten it in his head that we will (he will) change the front yard a little .. Looks like a lot to me.. We have baby birds in the vine by our living room window so we have been talking about how to change that area with out messing with the birds so they will come back next year.  There is a small pond that he has to clean out all the time. He hates that. So we have gotten a bird bath that is like a fountain. Its cute and stays a dark color so we won’t have to clean so often. There is a rose-bush there that we are going to get rid of or put in a pot and give away. (I hate to get rid of things.) We have a white and a red double hibiscus that we are going to put in its place and one other plant.. The vine will be trimmed and left to go back. We have a flag pole at the end of our garage by the front walk. We leave the flag up all the time so it must have light at all times. There is a light mounted on the gutters on the roof and it is as I am writing going in a box for friends to sell at Flea Market. Hubby found a new solar one that he is putting up. And yesterday found the cutest solar stand up pegs with a butterfly on it that changes 4 colors. He also put new lights along the walk. I looked out last night and it was so pretty.  Can’t wait for the baby birds to fly so we can start the changes in the middle of the yard.  Holidays with presents kids are always asking for idea’s for Dad and I ..Well I came up with a new American and Navy flag for Dad. Well they got it but I guess I did not give them measurements and they did not ask but the Navy flag is bigger than the flag we have so he is thinking of putting in another pole then each flag will have its own pole. Now alls we need is the state flag and we will look like a county building… OMG.

I have been reading, still reading Judith Arnold as it has three books in one I am on the second one.  Tomorrow we are going to the flea market and do some book work. I want to take the two front tables and change out the books. Will bring home the ones that are on it now as their are only a couple of months left before I have to start bringing home books anyways so why not bring these home as I won’t be changing out again anytime soon.  The back table on the left side I have changed out that last weekend and put hard covers there of women writers any kind does not matter .. Then the other side that had all kinds I am making it just mens.

Have a great day and do a good dead.. You can also make a comment so I don’t feel so alone… LOL…Oh ya I change the front of this blog got bored …

Summer Reading

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

I wish I could say I love Summer reading better than anything. When it really is no different from any other time. Being Retired and being home most of the time, really makes Summer no different from Winter. Unless you countwinter holidays when we go to see kids a day here or there. Oh I live in Florida. It gets chilly hear but nothing like my familys in the North.

Now reading is great its one of the great fun things I do. If you can read you can travel from your recliner or rocking chair. I have been all over the world. The first book I remember as an Adult is the Born series by Nora Roberts. My very first book other than baby’s story books which I don’t remember.  was Tom Sawyer. But I was not caught yet. I use to watch my mother and my sister enjoy books but I just could not get into it. Was high school before I caught the bug ..

Summer reading to me is the time I put my self in a place where I try new things. Last year I was ready authors with trilogy’s about towns. I found Robyn Carr last year and Virgin River. Now I can’t keep her in my store (have a used book store). I am waiting for the next one to come out .  This year I am reading authors that another author has told me about on Facebook.  I follow a few of my fav. authors on FB.  This summer I have found Judith Arnold, I am now reading the second book and this one has three in it. I have had this book on my shelves for several years I don’t know why its great. Some one should have know how good she is besides me. I am reading “Father Knows Best”,Next I am going on to another author I just started reading Elin Hilderbrand, I read “the blue bistro”last week. I will be reading after I finish FKB ”A Summer Affair”, found it yesterday at a Library sale. Just by chance went to see what they had on sale in the used section and found a big sale.. So grabbed a bunch for my bookstore and this one for me first. Next I will read “The Search” by Nora Roberts want to finish this one before the end of the month as I will be visiting my family in Virginia which is about an hour from Williamsburg,Maryland where Nora and family have their bookstore.  Have been there a couple of times very nice. There are many business that she and her husband own there. One is the hotel that they opened last year. I hear its very busy.  well back to summer reading

June started me off with Emily March”Eterity Springs trilogy”(Angel’s Rest, Hummingbird Lake,Heartache Falls) 4****  Then on to Barbara Freethy Suddenly One Summer, On Shadow Beach, and At Hidden Falls. This is a Chesapeake Bay Trilogy. Then some authors I have been reading right along Linda Lael Miller’s Creed’s Honor, Debbie Macombers “A Turn in the Road”, Nora Roberts “Chasing Fire”

I have several books ready to take with me while I visit with daughter and family Julie Ortolon’s Pearl Island Trilogy  and Griffin’s Daughter by Leslie Ann Moore.

Been a slow summer for my bookstore. have not been buying many books been relying on trade-ins.  Some authors that I never get back to reuse are Robyn Carr, Lee Child, Stewart Woods, Joan Johnston just to name a couple

Will try to write more often …

Remember I do not sell Waiting for Agnes anymore you can get it from the author,Joe Bullard.

Hula Hoop

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

What can a Hula Hoop from the 60′s mean in my blog… Well the idea of Hula Hoops are from the 60′s.  My granddaughter Lizzie found them on YouTube and learned how to make her own to fit her proper size and learned how to use it in different ways.. She is very good.  This past weekend she and her sister Ginny had a booth next to mine at the Lake City Flea Market.  She was selling on site Hula Hoop and taking orders for custom sizes and colors… She got some orders and she was showing people how it’s done and letting them try.  It was so cute and I was so surprised at how good she is with people . This is my granddaughter who says she is not a people person she is going to study medicine and become Abby on NCIS only in real life… I will try to put on a video of this for you to see

Confederate Rose

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Been cleaning, reading and playing on my FB farm. Laundry is almost all done. Kitchen is cleaned with my help and my husbands.  Rest of the house is his..

He finished our closet he made from the old shower room.. Now I have to think what I want in there the most .. I could fill it I am sure. I guess the wrapping paper goes on one shelf as he asked me to get it out of the bedroom.. I had it stored in a box behind my door next to the dresser.

Got beds made up for the girls they want separate rooms so I said OK.. One is a TV nut and the other is not so much so will give her the room with TV and other one get room next to bathroom. Girls are going to have a booth next to my store to sell stuff to help get extra money.

Next year I will have one in college, two seniors in high school and three in each grade of middle school and one in elementary school.. All spread out..

Hope to see all my friends at the Flea Market this weekend. We are trying to keep your favorite authors in stock right now i have no Lee Child’s, or Stewart Woods.

This picture is of the Confederate rose in my back yard. this is yesterday it is even prettier today. Have a great day. Remember a book of any kind is a good read.

Day after graduation. What a great two days.. We had dinner Wednesday night at Ginny’s favorite Japanese Restaurant.  She got lots of cool gifts Best ones were Japanese she loves Anime She got two figures and two hand made kamono’s  Some one made a big hit with her…

Graduation was great but long. Our Camera’s were not great for far away photo’s . But hopefully some of the family got some good ones.

We got home last night in the dark.. I went to help bring my scooter out of the car and tripped over the battery and turned my hip so been suffering with that ever sense. Advil helps allot. LOL..

Hubby is making a lot of noise he is taking down the small shower in the master bath to make a closet that I want and so he can give the girls some more things to sell while here. This is going to be short today….

Tuesday

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

I am back.. And already I went away again. My hubby came in and asked what I wanted for lunch. He is getting to be a true county retired person. Lunch at 11:30.  He has been out in the yard all morning putting dirt and mulch down. edging from his mowing yesterday.  Looks like fun sitting up there riding around the trees and bushes.  Last week he extended my rose garden and its so pretty. This year he has gone from putting roses in the back yard only to putting a couple out front. We have people who sell plants at the Flea Market and every week I am giving them a look over to see what I don’t have that I might want .. And they try not to disappoint me. (wish they would once in a while).

Granddaughters graduation from High School is Thursday can’t wait to see that. And a great neice goes to the same school so get to see two for the price of one ticket.(free) but you know tickets are hard to come by. Everyone wants to be there. Sorry to all the Aunts and Uncles Grandparents were asked first its only polite. Thanks Ginny Love you lots. And Mom’s and brother and sister(sister Lizzy graduates next year) and a cousin but they are not in the same school not even the same state. Don’t you dare mess it up so I have to choose which one.(please).

Well I have decided that I might scrimp by this summer at the book store if I don’t buy any books. that means no yard sales… I will only trade… prices will have to go up in November. Should be now but I am trying to stick to my original plan. If anyone has books they want to donate that would be nice don’t just get rid of them.. They must be in sellable condition.. prefer no animal or shed smells don’t over power me with smoke I will send them back home with you. Thanks for all my customers who are sticking with me though the heat of the summer.

Right now I am reading Barbara Freethy, Angel’s Bay series  Its really great.

Have a great day see you soon on here or at my bookstore. I will send books in the mail if you have something you need and I have  $1.25 a book and postage

Summer Begins Hot

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Where to begin. Has been a very long time sense I wrote on here. I was thinking I was not going to do it again.  I am always thinking of things I would say and just never do it.  Right now I am troubled about my bookstore. I love it so much and don’t know if I can keep it going over the summer when it is so hot and people either don’t get out  because of the heat or they are doing other things with families.. This is when I get to thinking I wish I had a real store where it was opened every day and I could afford to hire someone to help me. I think if that ever happened I would try to keep the Flea Market store also.  I did really bad this past weekend and if it keeps up I will have to cut back to two spaces again and I would not be-able to have as many books out as I have now. In the last month I have added three more bookcases so that I can have romance in a better spot.  I need to get more new customers for the summer months.

Looks like I will be raising my prices in the fall when we come back from the fair. I mentioned it to a few of my customers and they suggested that I do it now.  I am in a turmoil. Any suggestions would be helpful.  I am not buying book. I am getting lots of books with the tradein’s  There are some authors that I always run out of.  Stewart Woods, Lee Childs, Robyn Carr, Wendy Wax, Linda Lea Miller Diana Palmer  Joan Johnston Dorthy Garlock  and some of the fantasy writers who names fail me at the moment.

I had thought that if I could find a place to buy books as I need them wholesale  I could offer new books people are looking for . Customer would prepay. I know nothing about this part of the business and I am afraid to try.  I have no savings just living book to book.  Math is not my forte and spelling either as you have seen I am sure. If someone can help me with my thoughts or a place to buy so I can beat Wal-mart. LOL

A couple of weeks ago I got hubby to take me to The Villages here in Florida  a couple of hours south of here.. I got to see and have autographed books by Debbie Macomber. It was so much fun.  Top picture she is signing a book for my sister whos birthday is in December but I sent it to her already I could not wait. You need a bookstore and you are in the Lake City,Florida area we are in the Lake City Flea Market on Saturday and Sundays 7am to 3pm if its a really slow and hot day we might leave at 2:30 Come see us and bring a friend Will be braving the heat all summer so I can be here for your reading enjoyment. I have fans so come on out.

Did You Know it’s Saturday

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

Flea Market was great today lots of different kinds of books sold. Put over 7 boxes of books out on shelves. Hubby is out in our garage making more bookcases. I need more room for Romance. There are to many authors. And they are all good.  Have shot glasses for sale  at my store. They are selling.  I have farmed out two things that I sell to other vendor who sell the same thing. So I have more room for books and they have more stock. Its working out real well.  Taking out a folding table that has books for $.10 and putting them on another table so I can put three bookcases where it was. I have to pay hubby back for the wood he is using. He is nice enough not to charge me labor.

My next door neighbor was at the Flea Market today selling cookies and sweets that she and her sister-in-law made. They did quite well. Looking forward to seeing if they can make a special order for me at Easter time…

Clean Up

Monday, March 7th, 2011

I have had 6 to 12 boxes in the garage sence we moved here over 5 yrs ago.. I started into one a few months ago and put some of my shot glasses on the shelf and then put them on sale in my on line store. A month ago I closed all my online stores…I now have a few at The Book Store.  Today I went looking for some for a customer and ran across the glasses from our wedding I could not find and some snow globes my daughter was sure I had gotten rid of. I knew they were there just did not know where I was going to put them.  got three boxes emptyed and one refiled ready to go to Flea Market.  Cleaned of three book cases and made one empty so I can take to Flea Market soon.  I am going to empty the shot glass shelf and take it also. After hubby puts a back on it.  Then he is going to make me another bookshelf so I have three for romance like I do for mystery and historical romance.. Taking one table out so have to find where to store what is under the table. We will tackle that Friday along with getting some books to trade ready to go to book store next week. We went today thinking I had lots of trade credit and I did not.. So they were kind enough to let me get my books and bring the trades in next week.I have looked everywhere I go for Lee Child’s books… can’t find any. I wish customers who trade with me would bring some back. We went to Target today with my gift card from my birthday I got several books to read and Hubby got a spare coffee pot as they are hard to find when his wares out.

I am hoping to go to Ocala in May to see Debbie Macomber.  will be going to Orlando in April to stay with grandchildren and to Va in July to stay with those grands.. my Daughter and Hubby will be married 20 yrs…  So sense Hubby and I got married a few months after them I guess its our 20Th also.. Where did time go….
